Henna Hair Treatment

So today I decided to take 2 to 3 hours of my time and give my hair a henna treatment using the Nupur Mehendi henna treatment for "shiny and silky" hair. It has 9 herbs in it some of which are neem (fights scalp infection), hibiscus(makes hair shiny), aloe vera(moisturizes hair) and brahmi(promotes hair growth). So the process takes a few hours. You have to mix it with water and/or oil and leave it for 3-4 hours then put it on your hair for another 2.3 hours. You make paste- I used olive oil and then u put it on your hair from root to tip and leave it there. It goes on and dries like mud. The smell reminds me of neem leaf powder. It can get messy when washing out so keep that in mind.

Results: My hair does feel different to my usual Mizani fulfyl conditioning treatment which usually leaves my hair very soft but with the henna my hair feels thicker. It promised shiny and silky hair but I don't think my hair looks that silkier. I added hair polisher while flat ironing my hair to protect my hair and give it some shine. So this week I am gonna look out for how much breakage I have and see if the henna does work as a good treatment against breakage. So what I got from the treatment is thicker hair, not much shine and hopefully treats the breakage.

I also tried out my ELF lilac nail polish. I like it for work and every day. It is a really pretty colour. Pics to follow. Have a beautiful week!

My latest obsessions

Hi Beauties,

As many of you know I am obsessed with red lips as of late. When I wear red lipstick I feel totally sexy. Red lipstick is so empowering. It says HERE I AM , LOOK AT ME.  Now because red lipstick makes a statement, my grandma would say "its the colour the ladies of the night would wear", many women are still afraid to wear red. I think red lipstick was made for women of colour though. Finding the right shade of red for your skin tone, can bring out your yellow or golden or red undertones and make you glow. It takes time to get used to wearing red lipstick. I had to get used to seeing it on my lips and accepting that I looked fab in red lipstick. I pretty much wear any shade from burgundy to bright orange red but if you aren't as brave as I am you can try a sheer red lip gloss first before you move on to lipstick. Please do not do like I see some black women do- put red lip stick on then wipe it off to leave a stain. I've seen that numerous times and there I am wearing my red lips in full force. Red lipstick is also classic and timeless and will forever be a makeup staple in many women's routines.

How I apply my red lipstick?
-apply concealer around the edges of my lips- this prevents bleeding( lipstick running all over your face)
-Line my lips all over with a matching red lip liner (provides a base) some artist recommend using foundation on your lips or concealer to mute out your natural lip colour and to act a a base
- apply lipstick all over your lips
-blot with tissue
- if you want matte red lips this is your last step but if you want glossy red lips then you can add a clear gloss or matching red lipgloss over your lipstick.
-With red lips I would normally do a neutral eye or gold/bronze shadow with black liquid liner.

My next obssession is hats- I think this is a genetic thing in my family. My grandmother loves hats, especially for church and my mom loves hats- easy birthday present for both. lol We all borrow hats from each other. So I was bored and decided to take photos of my two favourite things right now red lips and hats. I have had these red lips all day long. I wore red lipstick today to cheer me up cus lately I have been fighting a cold. I just added some MAC Lipglass. Can't remember the name and its rubbed off but will provide a pic.

Eyes Lips Face (E.L.F.) Haul

Hi Beauties, This is long over due but I recently did two hauls from E.L.F. eyes lip face cosmetics (www.eyeslipsface.com). The products from the brand are very affordable and most of the products get good reviews on quality. Out of the many products I got, I was happy with most of them. Only ones I didn't really like were the 83 piece essential makeup collection, the matte bronzer and the contouring blush and bronzer. I'm actually thinking of giving them away to any one who wants them. The main reason I got the 94  piece set( 83 piece beauty and 11 piece brush set) was because it seemed like a bargain to get 54% off using a coupon and it looked like a worthy buy, however it was kind of disappointing. The lip glosses were completely sheer, the bronzers and blushes hardly show up and the colour selection for the eyeshadows was nothing special, in fact too many pale and neutral colours.
83 piece beauty essentials kit. Got it on sale for $35 from 65$.  Nothing was right with this except two of the bronzers. The colour selections won't work for women of colour.
Deep red gloss from the 83 piece set. Disappointing.

Eyeshadow from the 83 piece set. This would def need primer to last long.

This was the matte bronzer with some other shimmer bronzer from the 83 piece set. FAIL.
I love neutral eye palettes with gold. This was a good buy

It reminds me of MAC FIX SPRAY PLUS which i use to apply pigments

Disappointed in this bronzer. Will Continue my search for a matte bronzer to contour with.

pretty lilac nail polish.

This pigment is really good for $3.

Powder brush from the 11 piece brush set came with the 83 pc set. This brush is sooo soft. It applies powder ok. I like that their brushes have the name on the handles.

Concealer set. I use the darkest colour to contour my nose sometimes.

Passionate Purple pigment for $3. On the left its applied dry and on the right its applied wet.

Liquid eyeliner pen which goes on ok- nothing special and natural lashes which I still have to try- comes with its own adhesive.

Golden goddess pigment dry and went from left to right

Zit Zapper for $1. Got really good reviews
I  got a few other products not pictured above like the eye brightener which is ok as a under eye concealer but i prefer creams than powder. I got  an eyeshadow brush which is a nice size if you have less eyelid space.  The eye transformer that is supposed to turn dark eyeshadows to a shimmery colour- the was ok, it didn't blow me away . I used it with embark from MAC which is a matte deep brown and it did make it look shimmery. And last but not least, I got a lipstick  called seduction which is like a nude pink colour. It was ok- i think too pink for my skin tone would have prefered a more nude colour but it goes on smooth and smells really nice like bubble gum.

I am pleased with the haul overall but I am not blown away but at these prices I can't really complain.

So my beauties, stay tuned for more reviews. If you've seen something you like then Happy Shopping.

Caught without makeup

Hi Beauties,

So I began thinking today about how comfortable would I be to go out without makeup- makeup in this case being anything at all from grooming my brows to clear lip gloss? Would I be comfortable going out in public au naturale? Would I be OK with showing the world my acne scars, my blotchiness and hyper-pigmentation, my breakouts, my dark circles under my eyes, my bushy eyebrows, my very straight eye lashes, my chapped lips, my cheeks without contouring and my oily skin? I was never one of the girls who never showed my boyfriend how I look without makeup- in fact he tells me how cute I look without it most of the times when I think about it. I've heard guys say they've never seen some girls without makeup but honestly I have to be comfortable with you enough also that I know you are going to judge me. Not that I care what people think anyway but hey I am human. I am OK with how I look without makeup but I do everything I can to enhance my natural assets. The fact is makeup is there to enhance what you already have. You don't use makeup to feel beautiful because you already are- inside and out. I take time out every day when I get home and take off the clothes, the jewelry and the makeup, hair all messed up and I look in the mirror and smile at myself.  What I will show the world however are my full lips, my round cheeks, my big beautiful eyes and my smile and makeup of course brings all of these out. I was looking at some pics of celebs without makeup like Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Halle and Rihanna. Trust me these celebs have the best makeup artists and products known to man but beneath the surface, beneath the bronzer and foundation and blush- they look just like us normal/ real women. They suffer from the same "beauty" issues like us regulars. They have oily skin, pimples, dark circles just like me and you. I mean I've seen Alicia Keys doing a proactiv ad because she suffers from bad acne. Made me feel a little bit better (that's because she is one of my bf's celeb crushes). So here are a few of our favourite beauty icons without makeup, maybe it might make some of you feel better about your skin issues and for those who don't really care.... well we all are fascinated with the lives of celebs so who are we fooling here.

But I think I'll stick to my normal routine- most days I rock maybe a bright lip or neutral shadow with black liquid liner but keep everything else minimal. After all my lips and eyes are some of my best assets. So forget what people say or think about makeup- DO YOU! If you like going au naturale like Joy whatsherface( the model chick) then do you, if you are a glam diva like Beyonce or Rhianna then do you!

Don't forget to enter the contest which ends on the 21st.

Halle looks great either way

Beyonce pretty with or without makeup

this was just a bad pic for J-Hud we all have em!
