New Beauty: Sleek Makeup Haul

No its not a ghost, its me. I am alive and well. I have been MIA yes I know but when you work for other people you tend to forget your own priorities. Well no more! Let's get right to it....

 Sleek Makeup Haul
New makeup beauties! I received my goodies from www.sleekmakeup.com today! CLICK HERE TO VISIT THEIR SITE-> SLEEK MAKEUP. Yeah and I almost missed the delivery guy cus I was fast asleep ( at 2 in the afternoon, don't judge me.) Sleekmakeup is a popular UK based cosmetics company. I love that they have alot of shades that work for women of colour. I got a few things I have been eyeing for  while and then other things just to test out. I gotta say I love all the products. I am super impressed by the quality of the products for the prices. Shipping to International countries is about $13.50 US including to Canada. Check out my haul.

 Sleek makeup Swag
Lipsticks Front to Back, Stiletto (matte), Liqueur (sheen), Amped (matte). Will do swatches another time.
Front left to right : Dark Face Contour Kit ($10.00). Haven't tried it yet but excited to see how it looks.

  • Pomegranate Blush
  • Flushed Blush
  • Rose Gold Blush ( Dupe for NARS Orgasm)

Blushes are $6.50 and super pigmented. I wanted to get more like Scandalous and Aruba but they are out of stock. I will definitely be checking back on the site to see what else they have in stock.
Pout Paint in Mauve Over ($8.00) and Pout Polish in Powder Pink ($6.50)
Mauve Over Pout paint is a great choice, I love the colour payoff. A little really does go a long way. In the pic below, I didn't know how pigmented it was until I put it all on then I realized I only needed  tiny bit for full coverage. These Pout Paints are a great alternative for OCC Lip tars which are $13.50. Powder Pink pout polish is a tinted lip moisturizer with SPF 15 which is a great every day colour.
 Me wearing Mauve over.
Glisten Me Liquid Illuminator in Goddess for $8.00. I love Liquid Illuminators mixed with liquid foundation to give the skin a radiant glow or by itself to give skin some radiance. It can be used as a highlighter also on the cheek bone. This shade is perfect for darker skin women.
Sunset i-Divine Palette.($13.50) If you look at this, you wouldn't believe the colour payoff you get. These eyeshadows have a slight shimmer but they are very pigmented. I could have bought all of their eyeshadow palettes because they all looked interesting but chose this one to use in the Spring right down to summer.

New Skin Revive Foundation tester kit. ($4.50) This is a great option if you want to try their foundations but don't know what your shade would be. You get 5 colours to choose from in either light, medium or dark. The kit I got was medium to dark and I tried Demerara which is a little too warm for me but I like russet around my t-zone area where I am lighter. I like the medium coverage but the foundation felt a little sticky before it dried.  The brand gets bonus points for making shades for darker skin. Still have to see if I find my perfect match in this set.

I love every single item! I will definitely be visiting www.sleekmakeup.com more often. Let me know what you think beauties.

Curvy Geekery/Clutch Culture 1 yr Anniversary Show

Hi Beauties,
I have been MIA lately haven't I? I know but I have good reason, between studying for exams and working and other things in my life I have neglected blogging a bit. But I will try to make it up to you. On the upside I have  huge announcement..... *Drum Roll please* As of Saturday I wrote my last exam and I will be graduating on the 17th with a diploma in Professional Make Up Artistry!!!!! Yay! Thanks for all the support and I will make you guys proud. I am so ready to begin my career that I am thinking 5 to 10 yrs ahead. I have been putting alot of updates on the facebook page however since it takes less time to blog so check out the facebook page in the mean time until I post everything right here. Click this link -->https://www.facebook.com/NecessaryBeauty.

Another update... My very talented bff Mo recently reached a milestone- Her blog "Curvy Geekery" made 1 yr and she decided to throw a fashion show with her new collection of clutches called "Feeling Good" from Clutch Culture to celebrate the occasion. I got the pleasure of doing the models' makeup with another MUA- Megan Morrison and together we pulled off a dark smokey eye with false lashes and matte red lips look on all models. The show was amazing, the clutches were amazing, the entertainment was amazing, the guest looked amazing and the atmosphere was of course amazing. From this night, I know that this is what I want to do with my life.

Here are some pics from backstage courtesy of Shauna Brown.

Tis the season to wear Red.

Hey beauties, I haven't posted in a while because I have been battling with a mean head cold. It took me out of commission for a week and a half so of course I didn't wear alot of makeup except for in school. I decided to other day though to try and  do something different with Ruby Woo for the cold weather. MAC Ruby Woo is one of the prettiest red lipsticks I own but it is so drying which means its not a very good option for the cold weather. So I decided to amp it up with some gloss. First I applied Stila's Barbie collection lip enamel in Love Joy then I added some Stila 24 kt gold lipgloss to add some glitz. My lips looked full and juicy. If you are looking for a Holiday look, definitely give red glossy lips a try.

Eyes: MAC Tempting e/s on the lid with Embark in the crease and Rice paper as a highlighter on the brow bone.
Cheeks: Black Opal Mosaic Bronzer and MAC Margin blush.

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Photoshoot Makeup

Hi beauties, thought I'd share some behind the scenes pics from my photoshoot last week for my portfolio. My beautiful model Verena did an awesome job that day. I also chose V because my aim is to specialise in doing makeup for women of colour. She let me have creative reign and was up for anything I did. We ended up going to the mall to do some makeup shopping after the shoot and she got the Naked Palette from Sephora and a really pretty purple lipstick from MUFE. For the photoshoot, I decided to do a bridal look and a spanish inspired look to show my range. For the bridal, I wanted her to look soft and pretty but with a bit of an edge and sex appeal. For the spanish  inspired look, I wanted her to be strong and sexy inspired by Flamenco dancers and the zorro movies. I made a lace mask for her to wear but it was covering too much of the makeup so I opted not to use it. The concept was going to be the senorita being her own saviour.I even ended up doing some hair and some styling that day.
What do you think of the looks?

WEARING COLOURS FROM THE UD NAKED PALETTE, VELVET TEDDY LIPSTICK FROM MAC ON HER LIPS AND NARS ORGASM BLUSH ON HER CHEEKS.

THIS MY FAV PIC I TOOK, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE PROFESSIONAL ONES.

THE BRIDAL HAIR I DID. SHE HAS THE PRETTIEST CURLY HAIR.

MY SPANISH INSPIRED LOOK WITH AN EGYPTIAN TWIST USING MAC RUSH METAL AND MELON PIGMENTS ON THE EYES AND MAC DUBONNET LIPSTICK MIXED W/T RELVON BLACK CHERRY.

ADDED SOME ARDELL ACCENT LASHES FOR SOME OOMPH AT THE END OF HER LASHES.

BASKING IN THE SUNLIGHT AS WE ATE LUNCH AT CARIBBEAN TWIST.
Days like these remind me why I love doing makeup.

Sephora and Mac Makeup Haul

Hi Beauties, let me share some of the goodies I recently bought for my kit from Sephora, MAC and Walmart. I had my first professional shoot for my portofolio which went really well and so Kwame decided to surprise me with a gift card from Sephora to commemorate the special occasion, (aww isn't he sweet).  I decided to use it to finally get the Urban Decay Naked Palette valued at $58 CAD not including tax. This palette was first sold out when Sephora opened here and no doubt that is it one of their best sellers. It is also very popular among beauty gurus and bloggers so I felt like it was a must have for my collection. I also got Duo eyelash glue which is very popular also and one of their mini lipgloss sets for $12 which was a great deal. I also visited MAC and got a palette and two eyeshadows and some supplies from Walmart.

HAUL INCLUDING ARDELL ACCENT EYELASHES, NYC CREAM BLUSH IN URBAN SPICE AND WALMART BRAND MAKEUP REMOVERS.
I love the Ardell accent lashes just to add to the outer corner for definition and fullness and these ones were great for my photoshoot.
I also love to work with cream blush and this one from NYC is really good for $4. It blends really well and has really good colour pay off.
The generic makeup remover wipes come in a pair for about $10 with 60 wipes each which is a really  good deal so they should last me a long time.

These 6 Sephora lipglosses were for $12 and I gotta say I love every single one. They also smell really good (like candy). They are not sticky and they are really true to  the colour you see in the packaging. This is a great Christmas stocking stuffer for the girl or woman in your life who wants a bunch of lipglosses to carry around with her every day or to travel with.

The swatches from UD NAKED PALETTE. (without a primer) From left to right the colours are virgin, sin, naked, sidecar, buck, half baked, smog, darkhorse, toasted, hustle, creep and gunmetal. They go on really silky smooth and blend well.
Let's get Naked!
I have been using Urban Decay Naked Palette ($58) since I got it on Saturday. I decided it would be a good palette to have in my kit to use for natural or bridal makeup. I used it on my model for the photoshoot for bridal -Virgin made a good highlighter and smog and darkhorse with creep helped to create a smokey gold eye look for my Spanish inspired look. I also used it on myself later than evening to go with a red lip- I used Half baked (really pigmented gold) and dark horse in the crease. My verdict is that for $58, I think this is a good palette for a professional. The shadows are so smooth and feel like silk to the touch and they blend very easily. It also comes with a brush that I tried and does the job and a mini primer potion (great stuff). If I was to get this for my own use, I would really think twice about it because of the price and because I already own so many similar colours to these in the palette. I used it today on one of my classmates(Adele) and convinced her to get one. It is a great palette to use to bump up natural eye makeup into evening, And these colours would also work well on black women.

I USED TOASTED AND DARKHORSE IN THE CREASE, VIRGIN AS A HIGHLIGHTER AND NAKED ON THE LID. LIP COLOUR FROM MY NYX LIP PALETTE

HALF BAKED AND DARKHORSE ON MY EYES WITH REALLY RED FROM REVLON ON MY LIPS.

NEW ADDITIONS TO MY NEW PALETTE- HUMID WHICH IS A JEWEL-TONED FOREST/EMERALD GREEN EYESHADOW (2ND DOWN ON THE LEFT) AND RICE PAPER WHICH IS A SHIMMERY CREAM COLOUR (TOP LEFT).

Sincerely
Your friendly neighbour makeup junkie.
