Oldie but goodie

Its been almost 3 months since my birthday and I am just posting these pics. I'm very ashamed. But better late than never. I wore this gorgeous satin royal blue dress from ASOS with bright fuschia lips courtesy of NYC cosmetics. Its a really nice blue based pink lipstick- one of my favs. It went well with my fuchsia bag that I got from my cousin - Kari a few years ago. I had fun eating sushi with the bf at the Marriott hotel- only spot in St. Kitts where you can find sushi. I think this is our second year I've had sushi with him for my birthday- last year in Halifax. Earlier that day we went on a catamaran cruise to Nevis which was so much fun. And I picked up my cake from my old college roommate Angelle who did an awesome job with the description I  gave her. I also spotted one of my favourite bloggers in the same colour combo I wore on her blog moptopmaven which I think is down because she is sick unfortunately.

Cheers to still being in our 20's

My lovely cake courtesy of Angelle. This suited my personality to the tee.

Diva Days

Hi Beauties,

I haven't been posting much these days on account of lack of sheer energy and my weekends have been also so busy. On  Saturday I did a wedding party of 10, crazy right. It took me about 2 and a half hours to get all bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids and then when it came to the  bride, my Luminess Airbrush machine decided to die on me so I had to use normal foundation. I didn't take much pics but hopefully, the bride will send me some so I can post. Here are some pics from last 2 weeks. Enjoy!

Off to the movies to c Xmen- Bright fuchsia lips courtesy of Stila Tickled Pink Lip Enamel.

You need attitude to work this colour or it will overpower you. Neutral eye look to compliment the bright lips. Those earrings are becoming my favs also.
One day after work heading home and my red lips are still popping.

The worst Saturday of my life spent at an all day meeting.  I didn't get to take a whole pic b/c I was in a rush. Late as usual

Jewel- toned purple lip and my fav aviators from Aldo. Pearls make me feel so elegant.

I did a twist out using foaming mousse and twisting my hair into bantu knots.

Friday nite look. Eyes- Sasha bus stop( orange) and MAC Gold mode pigment. Lips- Nude colour from my Sasha lip palette topped with Gentle Coral Tinted lip condition from MAC.

Too bad you cant see my ear lace my friend got me. Its an earring and necklace all in one. So cool. Will do another post with it.

Lorac satin baked eyeshadow (grey colour -can't recall the name)  With  NYX white pearl pigment by the brown bone, an ardene eggplant colour eyeshadow ( very inexpensive but so creamy and rich) Lined the bottom lash line with MAC Fascinating eye liner and a rimmel eye pencil ( turquoise colour). The trick here is to blend the colours into each other.

Love this animal print ring $10 EC from brown sugar. Purple nails from a previous post (summer nail colours.) Earrings courtesy of my girl Michelle.
Dress from asos, shoes and belt from aldo and bag from Winners.
Hope these looks inspire you. Stay beautiful.

Dying to try this look

Thought I'd share a barbie inspired look from MAC that I am dying to try. Its too much for work and I haven't been invited to any cool parties to rock it just yet ( lame social life) I guess I will just have to experiment for the purpose of the blog.
I definitely have rocked that lip colour before with my stila barbie lip enamel in tickled pink but i have to try that eye look with the lips.

Different folks, same strokes

Hi Beauties its been a while, I know. I have been working on my other job after my main job so my passion which is sharing with you guys got lost in the shuffle. I try not to let that happen but apparently the definition of being an adult some how consists of working and not following your passion. But I'm here now. I have been meaning to write about how women of different skin tones can pull of the same colours sometimes. I did this experiment with my friend Kyla, who is a little darker than I am where I put her in two looks that I wore a few weeks ago. And what do you know... both looks worked on her perfectly.

The first look is with both of us wearing stila lip enamel from the Barbie collection in "TICKED PINK". I love this bright fuchsia colour. It is one of my new favourites. Now to make it work on me I wore the stila lip enamel on top of Covergirl Queen Collection "POWDERPUFF PINK" lipstick to make it even richer. For Kyla, we just put the tickled pink on her bare lips.

Kyla et moi in the same lip colour
Then I was inspired by a look I saw on a magazine and tried it on myself with my coastalscents smokey eye palette using all the purples and then I tried it on Kyla who usually wears less eyeshadow but it really opened up her eyes. If you do purple eyeshadow try it with a pink lip.

Kyla et moi with the same purple smokey eye

And then we did our nails. I am wearing Sally Hassen Xtreme Wear nail colour in pacific blue with MIA Secret Crackle over it and Kyla is wearing NYC Longwear  in Fuchsia Shock Creme with Crackle also.

So sometimes the same colour can work on women of different colours. Have a good night and I will try to keep the posts coming. Bon soir mes cheries.

Kiss me 'cus its Spring time!

Hi beauties,
This spring its all about bright lip colours. Now again some of you make say you can't pull off a bright lip colour but its all about finding the right shade for your skin tone.

One of the hottest lip colours this spring is orange. Don't get scared just yet because orange is one of the most attractive colours on women of colour. You just need to go out and find your shade. For top picks there are
MAC Morange
Makeup Forever Rouge Artist Intense in 40 ($19 at sephora.com)
Revlon MD Orange Flip ($7 at drugstore.com or amazon.com)
NYX Cosmetics Diamond Sparkle Lipstick in Orange ($5 at nyxcosmetics.com)
Milani lipcolour in Orange Gina ($3.49 at amazon.com or cvs.com or drugstore.com)
Stila Lipglaze Stick in Orange ($4.99 at amazon.com)
MAC Morange
For those who are skeptical you can start out with a sheer gloss like MAC Tinted lip conditioner in Gentle Coral. Its one of my favourite glosses and it happens to be orangey sort of coral but it goes on very sheer.
MAC Gentle Coral
I found my perfect shade of orange from The power of plants Botanics in 60. It has a reddish undertone which works well with my complexion. Oh and the orange nail polish is from NYC cosmetics.

Another hot colour for lips this spring of course is fuchsia. This again is a perfect lip shade for women of colour as long as they find their shade. I tend to stick to fuchsia lip colours with a blue base meaning it has a bluish undertone when you look at it. My favourite fuchsia lipstick of the moment is NYC 405B which you can find pretty much at any drugstore or walmart.
Wearing NYC 450B
Fuchsia lips are in this spring
 Picks for fuchsia lip colours
Covergirl lip perfection in Internal (6.50 at drugstores)
Avon Ultra Colour Rich Moisture Seduction Lipstick in Pink Tafetta, $8 at avon.com
Covergirl Queen Collection Lipstick in Powderpuff Pink $7 at amazon.com
Dior Rouge Dior in 766 Star Fuchsia $30 at dior.com
Milani lipflash lip pencil in Flashy $6.49 at cherryculture.com
NYC Ultra last Lipwear in 450B( various drugstores)

So go out and pick up two of the hottest spring lip colours and try them out. Have a beautiful week!

Get Rihanna's look for less

Get this look for less...

I have always loved the simplicity yet edgyness of this look by Rihanna at the 2008 Kids Choice Awards. I thought why not try to replicate this look for less using affordable makeup products.

Rihanna is wearing her signature blue eyeliner look (she wears it alot) which emphasizes her hazel eyes and a bright fuchsia lip which is the same colour in her corset top. Her foundation is very matte and gives her that fresh face look.

This look is very versatile. You can always just do a winged-eyeliner look with any colour of your choice to bring out your eye colour for example purple brings out brown eyes and if the lip colour is a little to bright for you you can always use a different kind of pink. If you do choose to do the blue eyeliner though, pink lips is the best contrasting colour to work with. I Think blue and pink compliment each other perfectly, probably because they are at opposite ends of the colour wheel. ( We will discuss the colour wheel in another post). So here goes...

Foundation: Check out my post on my foundation routine on how to apply foundation. Extra step add a highlighter to your cheeks instead of blush. If you have a pale shimmering eyeshadow you can use it as a highlighter or I use Clinique's up-lighting liquid Illuminator in bronze. ($22.50)

Eyes:
Prime you eyes using your eyeshadow base or primer. Also primer the bottom lash line because you'll be applying eye shadow there too. I use Botanical's eyeshadow base (about $3 us). Then apply any neutral shade to the entire eye lid. Apply a neutral shade two shades darker than the one on your lid into your crease to add definition.

Apply black gel eyeliner with an eyeliner brush or angle brush across the top and bottom lash line and extend with a wing on both top and bottom. Extend the line when u get to the inner corner. This is to create a cat-eyed look. (coastal scents gel liner in true black or Maybelline's eye studio gel liner in black ($6.98 on walmart.com. Eye studio is my fav and it comes with a brush to apply it also) . You could also use liquid eyeliner (NYC makes a good one) or an eye pencil. I recommend Rimmel's Soft Kohl Kajal eye pencil in jet black($4 us). On the higher end, MAC's smoulder eye pencil is an all time favourite of mine. ($16 us)

Take an angle brush or an eyeliner brush, spray it with MAC's fix spray or you can use a mixing medium (2 parts water to 1 part glycerin) and apply Mac's deepest blue shade in Sea and Sky mineralized eyeshadow on top of the black eyeliner from the inner corner to the outer corner in a thin line. You can make the line and thick or thin as you like. Repeat this step on the bottom lash line.

Take a smudger brush or a small eye shadow brush and apply Cover Girl's royal blue shade in the Tropical Fusion quad from the inner corner to about half way across the lash line on top of the MAC blue. Smudge the blue eyeliner to remove harsh lines and create a slight smokey effect just at the last line. Repeat this step on the bottom lash line. You want the black and blue to blend seamlessly together with out harsh lines. For an extra smokey effect. You can apply more blue eyeshadow in the outer corner of the eye (top and bottom) in a V and blend. (L'Oreal HIP Matte Eyeshadow duo in yellow and black $6.78 us on walmart.com) My look is alittle more blue than Rihanna's.

Apply mascara. Two coats of Rimmel's Maxx Volume Flash Mascara in extreme black ($5.47 us on walmart.com) You can also try Cover girl's Lash Blast in extreme black ($6.50 us) False eyelashes are optional if you want to amp up the look.

Lips: First thing is to prime your lips. Use a regular lip balm like chapstick or soft lips on your lips. Then line lips with fuchsia lip liner. Most brands make this colour lip liner. Apply NYC lipstick in fuschia- 405B. You can also try Wet & Wild 511b. Its like .99 cents at walmart and it's a super pink color. I added my victoria's secret lip gloss for some shine (the name rubbed off) its a fuchsia colour.

Remember you can make the look your own. Enjoy- beauty inside and out.
