Review of Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation

Hi Beauties,

I can finally get online to write on my blog. My internet has been bugging for like a week and I got on today. YAY! I have so much to update that I am going to do most of them today while eating Dove's Beyond Vanilla Icecream ( it comes with hard dark chocolate coating ontop) so yummy and watching some of the greatest artists ever on VH1. I recently got my good friend (Dwayne aka Fatty :)) to go to Sephora in Boston and find this amazing foundation from Makeup Forever (MUFE)- Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation. I know buying foundation in a new line is tricky especially if you have never tried it but I found a really good tool online to help you find a foundation shade in another brand if you already know your MAC shade. For example- I am NW43 in MAC and I put the info in the database and it gave me all the other shades in all the other brands that would match my skintone. I found out I am a 70 in Makeup Forever Mat Velvet. So check out temptalia foundation matrix at http://www.temptalia.com/foundation-matrix if you are thinking about trying a different brand of foundation.

So my review of MUFE Mat. I give this foundation 4 out of 5.

Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation
What it is:
A shine controlling, oil-free, water-resistant, complete coverage liquid foundation.

What it is formulated to:
Hides imperfections, evens out skin tone, and mattifies with a non-oily, perfectly powdered finish. The result is flawless and lasts for hours.

What else you need to know:
Although this foundation provides full coverage, the end result is completely adjustable to fit your needs - a little goes a long way.

I love this  foundation. I put just  little bit on my foundation brush and it offered full coverage with just a little bit of the product. It went on smooth and after a few minutes the shine from the oil in my skin was gone. I like the fact that its like it has a built in primer because of the silicone so I can skip one step and it goes on so smooth. I even said my face looked airbrushed. The only reason I didn't get it 5 out of 5 is because of the size. It seemed really small to me compared to my MAC Studio Fix Fluid but when I checked both actually contain the same amount of product (30 ml). It is also kind of pricey ($34 US) on sephora.com or amazon.com. But I will definitely be using it for special occasions.

MUF MAT VELVET IN DOORS

MUFE MAT VELVET IN NATURAL LIGHTING

On my eyes: ELF Gold pigment
On my lips: Covergirl Queen Collection lipstick in Nude Attitude

Amazon.com, and drugstore Haul.... can you feel the excitement?

Hi Beauties,
It's me again. I recently got some goodies from amazon.com and from my cousin in Texas who I sent to cvs drugstore.(www.cvs.com) to find some lipsticks for me from the new Covergirl Queen Collection.
Covergirl Queen Collection Powder Puff Pink

Au Naturale

Girly Pink

See red

My Queen Collection Collection
Overall these lipsticks are pigmented, they are smooth and creamy and very hydrating and I love the smell. I love the nude colours which are pretty and the powderpuff pink is a nice bright pink. The reds were just ok. Overall I give these a 4 out of 5.
Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Roller

I have been searching for a dark under eye circle treatment for a while and stumbled on this one. This promises to instantly correct dark circles and brighten the eye area. It contains caffeine which with the circulation from the roller ball is supposed to energize and stimulate the eye area and conceal dark circles. Result: The sheer tone which is supposed to be for all skin tones was too light and my under my eyes still looked tired. I give it a 2 out of 5. Its on amazon.com for $15US.

Supposed to sheer but it looks very ashy

NYX White Pearl, Space Pearl and Jade Pearl

My look using White and Space Pearl. I'm also wearing Nude Attitude from Covergirl Queen Collection on my lips.
I love these pigments, they were like $3 on amazon.com. They are very pigmented and so affordable. I would even say comparable to MACs expensive pigments. I give them 5 out of 5.
MIA Secret Crackle Nail Polish
MIA Crackle polish over ELF Lilac Polish
So I have been waiting patiently to try this new trend in nail polishes. OPI recently came out with Shatter which when applied over another polish it gives this cracked effect which I thought was so cool. However it was like $20 US, I wanted it but not that bad. So I did my research and found this MIA Secret Crackle Polish on amazon.com for about $5 US which promised the same effect as the OPI one. MIA offers a variety of colours in the crackle polish but I choose black like the OPI shatter. I tried it out and I can say I am not crazy about it. I like it but I am not blown away by the results. It looks better in the ads. In real life it looks very dull so I had to add a top coat over it. I give it a 3 out of 5.

MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder

MAC Smolder is one of the best eye kohls I have ever come across. It is very black and creamy so it goes on smooth and easily. I got this on amazon.com for $11US where as its bout $16US in MAC stores. I fell in love with feline but it was limited edition and smolder is the next best thing from MAC. 5 out of 5.

My Review

Don't waste your money

By Shyne from Miami, FL on 3/22/2011

1out of 5

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Colours are washed out, Colour variation is poor, Wears Off Easily, Not pigmented

Describe Yourself: Trendy Style

Skin Tone: Deep

Age: 25-34

I was disappointed with this set. The colours were not pigmented which means they aren't WORTH trying if you are a woman of colour. The variation in eyeshadow colours was poor and the lip glosses weren't even pigmented. The bronzers and blushes were also not pigmented and wore off pretty easily.

I spy with my pretty eyes....

My philosophy when it comes to eye makeup is to wear colours that accentuate your eye colour and/or define your eye shape. You don't need the whole rainbow on your eyes to make them stand out. I also stay below the crease (well most times) because I want to accentuate the almond shape of my eyes and show off the high arch of my brows.  I have alot of lid space also, for some girls who don't have alot of lid space you can always use eyeshadow as an eyeliner and apply it just above your lashes. I tend to wear two colours on my eyes- one for highlight and one for contouring and definition. I have long lashes so I tend to just use eyeliner and mascara. My two favs are MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder which is a rich creamy smooth black eye liner and Maybelline Collosal Mascara which adds length and definition to my lashes. If you have great lashes you don't need fake ones. My eyes are my some of my best features. I have been approached by a guy one time who told me I have the prettiest eyes he's ever seen....then he proceeded to ask me if he could have them (psycho?) lol I have dark brown eyes so I tend to wear alot of purple eyeshadow which makes my eye colour pop. Green is also a great colour to wear to bring out brown eyes. So find out what eye makeup works for your eye colour and eye shape. If you have a question about eye makeup just write it in the comment section and I will answer. Here are some of my looks for the past 2 weeks or so.
This was done using two pigments. One from GOSH and one from ELF

Black and yellow uh huh :)

neutral lips for a dramatic eye. Sometimes I think this is too much for work but hey where else I am gonna go? lol

This colour is from my coastal scents smokey eye palette. It is so pretty its like a shimmery blue-green colour.

blue green brings out brown eyes

simple gold eyeshadow.

one of my fav looks for the week. Colours from my matte 42 stack palette from coastal scents. All I did was  use NYX jumbo pencil in Milk as a base to make the colours pop.

my eyes in natural lighting

I think u can rock silver during the day. I used a gunmetal silver and added some black in my outer corner for some definition.

Gold and bronze look

I just thought I looked sexy in this pic :) I have just navy blue eyeliner on.

This was an experiment that worked out. I cant remember the colours. but I know theres a silverish colour and perhaps some kind of pink.

Remember that your eyes are the windows to your soul... Have a good weekend my beauties.

Kiss me 'cus its Spring time!

Hi beauties,
This spring its all about bright lip colours. Now again some of you make say you can't pull off a bright lip colour but its all about finding the right shade for your skin tone.

One of the hottest lip colours this spring is orange. Don't get scared just yet because orange is one of the most attractive colours on women of colour. You just need to go out and find your shade. For top picks there are
MAC Morange
Makeup Forever Rouge Artist Intense in 40 ($19 at sephora.com)
Revlon MD Orange Flip ($7 at drugstore.com or amazon.com)
NYX Cosmetics Diamond Sparkle Lipstick in Orange ($5 at nyxcosmetics.com)
Milani lipcolour in Orange Gina ($3.49 at amazon.com or cvs.com or drugstore.com)
Stila Lipglaze Stick in Orange ($4.99 at amazon.com)
MAC Morange
For those who are skeptical you can start out with a sheer gloss like MAC Tinted lip conditioner in Gentle Coral. Its one of my favourite glosses and it happens to be orangey sort of coral but it goes on very sheer.
MAC Gentle Coral
I found my perfect shade of orange from The power of plants Botanics in 60. It has a reddish undertone which works well with my complexion. Oh and the orange nail polish is from NYC cosmetics.

Another hot colour for lips this spring of course is fuchsia. This again is a perfect lip shade for women of colour as long as they find their shade. I tend to stick to fuchsia lip colours with a blue base meaning it has a bluish undertone when you look at it. My favourite fuchsia lipstick of the moment is NYC 405B which you can find pretty much at any drugstore or walmart.
Wearing NYC 450B
Fuchsia lips are in this spring
 Picks for fuchsia lip colours
Covergirl lip perfection in Internal (6.50 at drugstores)
Avon Ultra Colour Rich Moisture Seduction Lipstick in Pink Tafetta, $8 at avon.com
Covergirl Queen Collection Lipstick in Powderpuff Pink $7 at amazon.com
Dior Rouge Dior in 766 Star Fuchsia $30 at dior.com
Milani lipflash lip pencil in Flashy $6.49 at cherryculture.com
NYC Ultra last Lipwear in 450B( various drugstores)

So go out and pick up two of the hottest spring lip colours and try them out. Have a beautiful week!

What kind of make up products can you find in St. Kitts?

Hi beauties,
I am due to write the next installment of my spring beauty trends but I decided to  give reviews of some goodies that I found right here in SK. I know I obsess on finding stuff online or while in Canada but I discovered if you are willing to pay the price for certain things here in SK you can find them. Which brings me back to why I started this blog which was to share my knowledge with women here....

First some Sacha goodies from Dollar Saver. I've never warmed up to Sacha cosmetics since I was a fan of Iman Cosmetics way back when and then discovered MAC but I am thinking about investing in some more of the products. Its a cosmetics line out of Trinidad geared to women of different ethnic groups that don't really get much attention in the mainstream lines such as black women, indian and asian. I got the lip palette with 6 colours (45 EC or 17 US) , very pigmented and smooth colours which I love. And I also got the Fix it 2 in 1 Powder Foundation in Caramel ($45 EC or $17 US) which is comparable to MACs Studio Fix Foundation Plus Powder which I use currently. The store also sells sacha products cheaper than the website which totally surprised me. If you are interested in checking out sacha products http://www.sachacosmetics.com.

I got some red lipsticks from Scruples recently for like $8EC/ 3US each from Santee and LA Girl. They are smooth and pigmented and smell really good. I rocked one to the pageant on the weekend. Just to show you you dont have to do higher end name brands to get good makeup.

Santee 52 Red and LA Girl Jazzy Red

I also got some Santee glitter liners from Dollar saver. Can't remember the price but the blues really show up unlike gold which needs about 2 to 3 applications.

Then I went to Body Haven Spa because they tend to sell Revlon and Maybelline and other drugstore brands found in the US and Canada but not at reasonable prices. I got a Maybelline eyestudio silk shadow palette in green envy- love the colours can't wait to try a look with the green and the glitter liners. It costs 45EC or 17 US when in Walmart it would be around 6US. I got the Revlon ColorStay Mineral Foundation with SPF 10 in medium deep on sale for EC39.95. It was in another store in TDC mall for 55EC. I wanted to try this for several reasons- I like Revlon colorstay foundations and I wanted to try a mineral foundation and I saw Halle Berry in a mag wearing it. It does blend in well and it kind of gives my skin a certain glow. I like it over all.

All the locally bought goodies
So I should keep hunting for bargains in SK. Look out for my next installment of spring beauty trends for lipstick and nail colours. Buenas noche bonitas!
